The Frauenkirche (central Catholic church in Munich, left) and Town Hall with the glockenspiel tower (right)
I definitely want to come back to Munich soon! We had such a good time here but also didn't have nearly enough time to see everything the city has to offer. Today we went on a great four hour walking tour with a fellow named Ozzie. It was a lot of history, especially about the Nazi party, and some good information about the city. We then spent an hour and a half at the Deutsches Museum (which isn't nearly enough time for it--it's a great science and technology museum. Although not everything is translated into English) and then went to climb the tower of St. Peter's Church (where I took the above photo). Our last stop was the English Gardens to see the standing wave where people surf and to walk around the park. I hope I get to come back sometime though since there are so many things we didn't get to see! We missed the BMW museum/factory, the 1972 Olympic stadium, and the Nymphenburg Palace. I would also probably spend more time at the Deutsches Museum and possibly do a day trip out to the Neuschwanstein Castle or maybe Rothenburg. Plus it would be really cool to come back here during Oktoberfest or something and I'm sure there are a ton of other things that we missed that I just can't remember right now.
Anyways.. I'll probably come back and write more about what we learned on the tour but for now I'm going to bed!
Isartor City Gate
This tower from the Catholic church survived the WWII bombings (left) and this is where we had bratwurst for lunch!
The museum had an exhibit on things from the 1960's hah. It also had a cool music exhibit.
Airplanes at the museum too! Unfortunately, a lot of the information was only in German.
The Bavarian Alps!
It seems like every U/S-bahn (metro/tram) station has a lot of underground stores and are also used to cross busy intersections.
The English Garden's have water running through them from the Alps. It's a really fast moving current and the water level seemed pretty high.
At one point the current creates a standing wave allowing for people to surf it. So unusual but so cool! The current is really, REALLY fast here!
Had a "bretzel" with cream cheese and chives! Yum. : )
