Madison is the Capital of Wisconsin
Fortunately I ended up in Madison on a Saturday which allowed Weston to spend the whole day with me! He has only recently moved out here to work for Epic so I drove over to his apartment and then we went on a tour around the Capital, played some beach volleyball, and then had lunch at the Tipsy Cow (so delicious). Then we went back to his apartment exhausted and watched some TV before passing out for the night. Great day!
Beach Volleyball was fun! We played with some other Epic people and some cool University of Wisconsin-Madison guys showed up and joined us too. One of the Epic girls was a BME/MECH from MIT--small world! This was at James Madison Park right by Lake Mendota.
We decided to walk inside the Capital building and got to see the Senate and then walk around the top of it. Pretty neat! It's free so if you're ever there you should do it too.
Weston and I had lunch at this awesome place by the Capital called the Tipsy Cow (how could we not walk into a place with such a name?). We had fried goat cheese curds and burgers. My burger was a lamb burger with bacon, a poached egg, and some other tasty toppings :)
Please note the Monty Python reference on the blackboard.
Drove through the UW campus but it was pretty urban so it didn't seem like there was much to see except for the buildings.
We drove over to Epic which has some really cool buildings. Weston gave me the tour. Their office buildings are all themed so this is "the Farm"
Adirondack-y chairs on a roof
View from the roof
Dungeons and Dragons theme
Desert/Wild West theme
They have these chess sets in every building (all different of course). I thought this one was funny because this was how my cousin taught me to play chess. "Homer is the King and he is fat so he can only move one space at a time.."
Another pretty roof view
Indiana Jones theme
NYC Subway theme (they had the London tube too!)
Cabin theme
Weston's living room was pretty empty since he just moved in but certainly cozy!
I stopped in Sauk City the next day for some gas. Driving on these small routes is nice so I can see these cool small towns.
Wisconsin: "America's Dairyland"
Crossing the Mississippi into Minnesota! If you have never seen the river, it's big. Real big.
Thanks for reading!
